If you want to reduce your levels of anxiety or 'alertness' try reducing your exposure to the News, Social Media and tech in general. This digital world we live in over stimulates the brain to the point of increasing our 'alertness', our fear state and stress levels. We are constantly bombarded by notifications, emails, texts, newsflashes, DMs (I must admit having to look up what this one is) ... and when the brain is on high alert we are more susceptible to feeling pain and fear. A recent UK survey found on average that we check our phones 221 times a day! So ... time each day in the garden, or talking with friends or laughing and singing works wonders to reduce that alert state and help us to feel calmer and more centred.
