Does it work? ....
I have been asked many times if using mindfulness practice (MP) is effective from a neuroscience standpoint. There is alot of research which shows that ... MP increases our ability to have understanding in relation to being hurt by someone and as a result, helps resolve it through compassion and empathy for that person's actions. MP enables us to reduce the physiological impact on our body when stressed and as a result, feel calmer quicker. MP helps generate higher levels of emotional control, allowing us to increase cognitive response as opposed to reactive states. MP is proven to help manage heart rate, blood sugar and metabolism, reducing risk of heart disease and diabetes.
Personally I witness huge benefits to the relationships of those who come in to couples therapy, developing understanding through loving-kindness, and as a direct result resolving anguish and toxicity between people. And the evidence and research goes on ... we have identified that MP positively impacts biological, physiological and psychological wellbeing ... so for me, as a Psychotherapist whose approach is based in neuroscience, but also as a Buddhist practitioner, Mindfulness works!
Enjoy today, moment by moment, breathing in and breathing out ... this miracle that is Life.
