Those pesky impulses...

robbunting

Be aware of Impulses... Impulses are a type of avoidance and tend to crop up when we find ourselves in a state of discomfort... they offer us a temporary 'way out'. For example, if we have an impulse, or Urge, to eat chocolate right now, this could well be our reaction to "I really don't like the way I feel in my body". So, the next time you feel a strong impulse, why not practice stopping for a moment. Try to recognise the level of discomfort you are in.

If, for example, you are in a crowded place and feel the impulse to leave immediately, try leaning in to the discomfort and convince yourself to stay for a couple of minutes longer. Although the impulse to do something can often feel strong, try to think of it as a doorway to a greater level of understanding.
