How do I stay safe? I am not talking about the physical safety of not walking down a dark alley at night... I am talking about when I trigger, when my nervous system goes into it's fight, flight, freeze response and when I start to play out those movies in my Mind, when my bias and judgement kick in.
There are many ways to be calm and feel safe. One good way is to use my own name and tell myself "Rob, you are fine, it is fine, everything will be fine". We can also hold a space for ourselves and sit with the uncomfortable. We can pause, for a few moments, breathe, smile and allow ourself to settle. We can also be curious and 'look' at what is causing the upset... being gentle.
